This photo is a reminder to alway follow your instincts... and that social media doesn't tell the full story.

When assembling my solo exhibition, I was getting feedback from a few people regarding what to include, exclude etc. This photo didn't get much positive feedback initially, even though I knew it was a great shot. I felt that when people saw this photo, enlarged and up close with the cotton rag textured paper it would be seen differently. When people came to my exhibition, I asked them to pick a favourite and let me know before they leave. Heading North was in the top 5 favourite photos.

What's wonderful about this photo is the subtle additions: the aeroplane, the water (which some viewers didn't notice until told and the buoy directly in line with the aeroplane. I love this photo and have it hanging on my wall at home.

Photo taken at sunrise on North Narrabenn Beach in the middle of winter. Looking out to sea, I saw a plane flying through the clouds. I had a romantic thought of flying somewhere north on holiday, to a tropical oasis to escape the winter chill. Hence the name, Heading North.
