Jumping Rock (Waimea Bay, Hawaii)

How the photo was taken:

Pre-Covid, when everyone was carefree and travel was somewhat affordable, we visited Hawaii and stayed with some friends. Waimea Bay, known for its huge surf in winter, is like a pond in summer. The volcanic rock formation that are scattered along the beach are where people of all aged climb on top of, and if brave enough, jump into the warm waters below.

I sat and people-watched for an hour, watching multiple people jumping into the water, swimming back to the beach and repeating. This young boy took centre stage, giving himself to the jump, almost like a coming of age story with the young men in the background. I chose black and white for the photo as it worked better than colour.
